The studies aboard on one of Toni Morrison’s masterpieces-Beloved are large, and there are many aspects existing in the scholars’ analysis in this field, including the topics, maternal love, African-American culture and slavery, and the structures, such as narrative techniques, rhetoric and languages etc. According to the content in Beloved, the author centered around Sethe’s life and presented to us the broad living picture of black female and black community, then the analysis of racial and sexual discrimination alongside with feminism naturally followed. And the most recent years have seen a new aspect emerging- eco-feminism. Trauma, as one of the analytic topics in Beloved, often goes with slavery. To a large certain degree, the whole story was created in the aftermath of slave trade, which makes for the whole disaster. And it is on this aspect that the scholars most focused to analyze trauma. The intergenerational trauma is one branch, which the scholars tried to explore between generations. Some papers pay attention to connect memory with trauma and analyze the attitudes and response of main characters to trauma and actually did some researches on descendants of slaves, who accordingly helps signifying history. To remember or to forget, that is a question. Some others explain thoroughly the trauma itself and its influence. As Toni Morrison once claimed that her work was not meant to recall the suffering but to bring some hope to people, the audience and the whole black community, so the analysis of trauma also explore the revision and recovery of trauma, which echoes with the author’s purpose and deepen the subject. One of the typical perspective used in analyzing Beloved is narrative, some papers have tried to link post-classical narratology with narrative analysis, some refer to narrative voices, a communal narrative for example, is often mentioned to describe the community.
